Highlights
- Read a range of texts from different Biblical periods.
- Develop a sophisticated vocabulary.
- Advance your knowledge of Biblical grammar and syntax.
- Take field trips to important Biblical sites.
In the advanced level of Biblical Hebrew, you’ll focus on the further development of Biblical grammar and syntax, intensive study of Biblical vocabulary, and understanding texts from various Biblical periods: early Biblical poetry, classical Biblical Hebrew, late Biblical Hebrew, epigraphic Hebrew, and the Hebrew of the Dead Sea Scrolls. You must have completed at least one year of study in Biblical Hebrew or possess an equivalent knowledge to be eligible for this course.
Starting with a brief review of the basic grammar and syntax of Biblical Hebrew, we will then move to more advanced issues of Biblical grammar, including weak verbs and irregular verb conjugation. This will allow us to read texts from a wide range of Biblical periods.
Structure
This is an intensive four-week program. Classes are held five days a week for four hours per day.
You’ll be invited to participate in a wide array of trips, tours, and activities offered by the Office of Student Life. From a tour of the Old City to a trip to the Dead Sea to checking out the local festivals, you’ll build your own unique impressions and memories of Jerusalem and Israel.
While residing in HebrewU dormitories with other international and Israeli students, you’ll have a chance to form new friendships and get involved in campus life. A team of multilingual Israeli students, called madrichim, is also there to help you adjust to your new surroundings and give you tips on things to do. Learn more about student life at HebrewU.
