On the morning of the Simchat Torah holiday, the October 7 massacre marked the beginning of Operation Swords of Iron, Israel’s military response to Hamas in Gaza.

As a result, thousands of Israelis have been forced to leave their homes for safety, essentially becoming refugees in their own country.

In response, the Israeli people have been offering support, providing food, clothing, equipment, and psychological care. They have opened their homes to the displaced, cooked for those in need and soldiers on the front lines, coordinated activities, and worked in the agricultural fields.

The Office of Student Life, along with HUJI international students who remained in Israel during this difficult time, participated in several meaningful volunteer activities.

Currently, the Office of Student Life can arrange volunteer opportunities for you, including:

1. **Food Rescue and Cooking for People in Need**:
The “Human Front” organization collects food from various markets around Jerusalem and prepares nutritious meals for those in need, especially on weekends.

2. **Agriculture – planting, picking, and packing crops**:
The “Leket” organization helps Israeli farmers by finding volunteers to assist in the fields and preserve the nation’s crops during these challenging times.

3. **Nature – cleaning and maintaining Israel’s national parks**:
The Israel Nature and Parks Authority, a government organization managing the country’s nature reserves and national parks, offers many opportunities to help maintain these areas.

4. **Beit Yalin Project**:
Located in Motza, West Jerusalem, the Ottoman-era synagogue has been damaged several times. Volunteers assist in maintaining its garden and small spring, as well as creating new mosaics for decoration.
