BEN-AMI Doron

Ph.D., Lecturer

Dr. Doron Ben-Ami of the Institute of Archaeology of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem specialized in the Iron Age and conducted research on Hazor and the Galil of the 10th century BCE. He published his findings following his lengthy participation in excavations in the city of Hazor in northern Israel led by Professor Amnon Ben-Tor. Since 2007, he has led the excavation in the Givati Parking Lot in the City of David- the largest, most comprehensive excavation in Jerusalem today that has revealed important findings that are helping us understand the history of the city.

BENZIMAN Yuval

Ph.D., Lecturer

A Post Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Communication and Journalism. His research interests are Israeli cinema and other culture channels, and the way they construct the Israeli narrative and frame the Israeli-Arab conflict. Yuval studies the complex relations between fictional texts and how they represent reality vs. what reality supposedly is about. He studied Psychology and Hebrew Literature for his BA degree; Conflict Research and Hebrew Literature for his MA degree; and his PhD. dissertation – which looks at how Israeli literature of the 1980s represents the Israeli-Arab conflict – was done under the supervision of two instructors, one from Hebrew culture and one from International relations. In the last two years he was a Post-doc Visiting Professor and Visiting Assistant Professor in the University of Maryland.

EPSTEIN Simon

EPSTEIN Simon

Ph.D., Senior Lecturer.

My name is Simon Epstein and I have been teaching at RIS since the middle of the 1980s. I am now teaching in the Graduate Division a seminar about the history of the State of Israel. The course integrates political, social, cultural, diplomatic and military developments. It is organized in a chronological framework, preserving the specificity and emphasizing the main features of each stage in the history of Israel: 1948-1956, 1956-1967, 1967-1973, 1973-1977, 1977-1982, 1982-1992, 1992-2000, 2000-2011.

I may say that teaching foreign students is a wonderful experience, in general, and that teaching at the graduate programs is especially challenging and rewarding.
