Tuition & Housing

RIS reserves the right to change fees at any time.

All fees are listed in US Dollars (US$), unless otherwise noted, and are in effect only for the 2019/20 academic year.

  • Application Fee (non-refundable): Tourists: $80, Israeli Citizens: NIS 360 – per academic year.
  • Late Payment Fee: $150 or 500 NIS for payments received after the program payment deadline
  • Late Registration Fee: $20 for students who do not academically register by the deadline.
  • Israeli Citizen – To qualify, a student must present an Israeli Identity Card (Teudat Zehut )

Pre-Semester Programs

Students studying on both the Jerusalem Ulpan and the Summer Ulpan receive a 10% discount on the Jerusalem Ulpan.

Students taking more than one program (i.e., Summer Ulpan and Autumn Semester) are required to meet all their financial obligations by the deadline of the first program they will attend.

All fees include the period from the end of the ulpan until the start of the autumn semester.

Program Tuition

If you cancel your studies prior to the beginning of the academic year or semester, you will be charged a US$ 250 withdrawal fee and for any points you may have utilized for activities coordinated by the Office of Student Life.

Once the academic year begins, withdrawal from the program is contingent upon submission of a completed Notice of Withdrawal that has been approved and signed by your department.

Full-Time Semester or Year Students

This category includes all non-degree students (full-time and part-time non-degree study abroad students and visiting research students), with the exception of visiting research fellows.

If you withdraw prior to the beginning of the academic year or semester, you will be charged a US$ 250 withdrawal fee and for any points you may have utilized for Office of Student Life activities. Once the academic year begins, the withdrawal charges are as outlined below.

Independent and Visiting Research Fellows, M.A. Extended Year and Part-time students are not entitled to a refund under any circumstances.

Housing Refunds

If you have accepted a room key and/or have moved personal possessions into a room and then wish to vacate university housing, you must submit written notification to the RIS Finance Office, Boyar Building, room 501/502.

Ulpan or Summer Courses

If you withdraw from an ulpan or summer course and vacate university housing within the first three days of classes, you will be issued a refund, provided you present an official clearance from the Housing Office confirming your departure. Refunds are issued minus the payment for the days you resided in the housing (US$ 30 per day of occupancy). If you do not withdraw from the program or vacate your room after the first three days of classes, we cannot issue a refund for housing.

Semester or Year

If you are attending a semester or year program and cancel your housing reservation or vacate your room by October 26, 2019, you may receive a refund for the housing fee paid for the autumn semester or academic year, provided you present an official clearance from the Housing Office confirming your departure. Refunds are issued minus the payment for the days you resided in the housing (US$ 30 per day of occupancy).

If you vacate university housing between October 27, 2019, and the end of the autumn semester (January 28, 2020), you will be charged through the entire month in which you vacate your room, plus one additional month of rent, provided you present an official clearance from the Housing Office confirming your departure.

After the end of the autumn semester, no refund is available for the balance of the academic year. Once you occupy a room for winter or spring semester, no housing fee refunds are issued.

Visiting research fellows are not entitled to a refund under any circumstances.
