The RIS Division of Undergraduate Studies offers qualified students the opportunity to take academically accredited courses in English and Hebrew at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem that may be transferred to their home colleges and universities.
Studies begin with an intensive Hebrew language course (i.e. Ulpan), designed to increase the student's Hebrew proficiency at all levels. After the Ulpan, studies continue in a flexible inter-disciplinary program offering a wide variety of courses, taught in English and Hebrew, in Jewish Israel and Middle East Studies, and more specifically in such areas as archaeology, business, history, literature, philosophy, religion, communications, international relations, exact and life sciences, political science, psychology, and sociology.
Students with sufficient knowledge of Hebrew are encouraged to attend departmental Hebrew University classes together with Israeli students, and choose from a broad selection of courses in the faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences and Science. Students are advised to consult with the appropriate office at their home university regarding required or preferred courses. Stimulating workshops, seminars, and tours around Jerusalem and the rest of Israel complement the rich academic program.
The two main programs offered in the Undergraduate Division:
The Freshman Program - open to first-year students
The Year/Semester Program - designed for students who have successfully completed at least one year of university study.
